Fethiye, known as Telmessos in
the antique period, is the most important city of Lycia - one of
the oldest. Anatolian civilizations-at the western borderline with
caria.
Starting from Şövalye Island and threading from west to
northwest of the Fethiye Gulf, this stunningly beautiful group
of islands may be visited on day-long boat cruises leaving
from Fethiye harbour each day.
Here you'll find
Red Island, Delikli Island, Yassıca (Flat) Islands, Domuz
(Pig) Island as well as Hamam Bay where the ruins of a
Byzantine Monastery lie half submerged in the water.
At Yavansu Bay a
short walk takes you to the ruins of the ancient city of
Lydae, whilst at Tersane (Dockyard) Island, you'll see ruins
of an Ottoman shipyard on the beach area.
